A description of Sasha Calle's Supergirl from a piece of promotional merchandise for The Flash hints that the DC Universe version of the Girl of Steel isn't operating at full power in the upcoming film.An official Flash movie t-shirt that was available at Comic Con Experience (CCXP) 2022 offers descriptions of the film's two versions of Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller), Bruce Wayne/Batman (Michael Keaton) and Supergirl, describing them as "two idiot kids, a retired vigilante and a half charged solar powered alien," respectively. This would imply that, for whatever reason, Supergirl's Kryptonian powers are diminished in the film.RELATED: The Flash Movie Unveils Yet Another Dynamic New Logo

Regarding her role as the Maid of Might in The Flash, Calle explained why it was important to be playing a Latina version of Supergirl, saying that she was honored to be the first. "There was a moment when we were shooting, when [director Andy Muschetti] was like, 'Hey, come over here and watch this scene on the playback monitor,'" Calle said. "And I go over and I see her [Supergirl], and she's in her full glory. And suddenly, I got really emotional. Because I'm looking at that, and I'm like, 'Wow, I wish I would have had this when I was little.' It meant a lot to me. I turned into child Sasha watching this person. So it's really important. And I'm really happy and really thankful to DC and Warner Bros. for doing this now. It's so cool that we're doing this, and, you know, it's about time."

At this time, it's unclear if Calle will be portraying the Kara Zor-El version of Supergirl, or perhaps an alternate incarnation of the character. Notably, Kara was previously portrayed by Helen Slater in the 1984 film Supergirl, and by Melissa Benoist in the 2015-2021 television series also titled Supergirl. Laura Vandervoort also starred as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in Seasons 7, 8 and 10 of Smallville from 2007 to 2011.

As for The Flash, the film is still slated for release in June 2023, despite the various controversies surrounding lead actor Miller. Regardless of said controversies, however, it was reported earlier this year that The Flash was doing well with test audiences, having numbers higher than any other DCU movie. Additionally, while the Scarlet Speedster's film hasn't arrived in theaters yet, Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has already written a Flash sequel, though such a project may only happen if the first movie "does well."

The Flash opens in theaters on June 23, 2023.
