Following his Stargirl debut, Jay Garrick will return for The Flash Season 8. During an interview with CBR, longtime Flash star John Wesley Shipp confirmed he will reprise the role. He also revealed that he and showrunner Eric Wallace have discussed the way they want to explore Jay's relationship with Bart Allen, Barry and Iris' time-displaced son.

Asked whether he would like to delve into Jay and Bart's relationship, Shipp told CBR, "I would... and they've set it up. I can tell you that I will be going back in about a week and a half to shoot more Flash."

"I'm not sure exactly what time it will be, but Eric Wallace and I have discussed having the opportunity to explore Jay Garrick as a mentor that we missed with Wally," he continued. "There was an opportunity with Wally, but we missed it. I would love now to be able to fulfill that playing Jay, that relationship that they set up and that Jordan Fisher set up and the writers set up so beautifully in those last two [Flash] episodes."

On The Flash so far, Shipp has appeared in several key roles. Initially, he played Barry's incarcerated father Henry Allen. Following Henry's death, he appeared in the Season 2 finale as Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-2. He has returned as Jay Garrick several times since then, including in the Season 7 finale, where Jay discovered he played a critical role in Bart's upbringing. Finally, during "Crisis on Infinite Earths," Shipp reprised his role as Barry Allen from 1990's short-lived The Flash show; in this crossover, however, his character sacrificed his life to save the multiverse.

Now, Shipp will be the first Arrowverse actor to take his character over into DC's Stargirl, a role he described as "a great honor." He will play Jay Garrick during Pat's flashbacks to the Justice Society's glory days in "Summer School: Chapter Nine," which airs tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 8 pm ET/PT.

The Flash kicks off Season 8 with its "Armageddon" event, which will air Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. In the meantime, Shipp will reprise his role as Jay Garrick in "Summer School: Chapter Nine," the next episode of Stargirl.
