The following article contains spoilers for The Flash #790, on sale now from DC Comics.

Barry Allen's One Minute War appears to have killed Iris West in DC's The Flash #790.

The Flash #790 comes from writer Jeremy Adams, penciler Roger Cruz, inkers Matt Banning and Wellington Dias, colorists Luis Guerrero and letterer Rob Leigh. The issue marks the start of DC's "One Minute War," a new storyline where aliens called the Fraction arrive on Earth with a Speed Force-powered ship and begin conquering the planet as they serve their empress. "We have conquered with mercy," a member of the Fraction narrates at the start of the issue. "Subduing every world before they can make the mistake of fighting back. We have used this power for our survival. Our growth. This invisible force guides us through its wind like an arrow through the sky...and where we land...the Fraction will conquer."

The Flash's First One Minute War Casualty is a MAJOR DC Character

Barry Allen and Iris West are at dinner when the Fraction touches down on Earth. Moments before first contact, Iris asked Barry if he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and pulled out a small, square box. The conversation, however, is cut short as the Fraction's arrival causes Barry -- and presumably DC's other speedsters to feel like they're running at top speed. While Barry attempts to grab Iris and get her to safety while watching the Fraction's ship land, an explosion forcibly sends them both flying backward. The issue ends with Barry holding Iris and screaming after finding her buried underneath a pile of rubble.

Flash Fact: "One Minute War" Will Have Huge Impacts on the DC Universe

Speaking to CBR in an exclusive interview, Adams discussed how "One Minute War" will bring some major changes not just to Barry, but for "several characters" within the DC universe. "It's a good chance for readers to get acclimated to DC's main speedsters in an extreme situation," he explained. "You get to understand their personalities, where the Flash is at emotionally, and hints at a bigger future for them all. As for what comes after this... Well... There'll be some big changes for several characters going forward. If you've been following The Flash thus far, you already know how zany the book is. It will continue along its usual path of twists and turns, silly humor with a heaping helping of heart."
