SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for The Flash #45, by Joshua Williamson, Christian Duce, Luis Guerrero and Steve Wands, on sale now.
Ask nearly any fitness enthusiast and they’ll likely tell you that no jog, sprint or run is complete without a set of earbuds or headphones. For some, it’s classic rock that serves as the soundtrack to their workout. For others, it’s hip-hop. However, in The Flash #45, we learn that Barry Allen has a rather unusual selection blaring through the earpieces of his costume while he’s running across Central City.
Having recently rekindled their relationship, Barry and Iris meet up at the CCPD, where the latter asks to learn more about Barry’s life as the Scarlet Speedster. “What kind of music does The Flash listen to when he runs?” she asks him.
Much to her surprise, though, it isn’t music that Iris discovers while toying with the earpieces of Barry’s suit. “Is that… Neil deGrasse Tyson?” she asks. “You listen to audio books while you run? Science books?”
Admittedly, we really shouldn’t be all that surprised by this revelation. After all, Barry is a forensic scientist by trade. Given how much time he spends away from his day job while he’s saving Central City, it only makes sense that he would try to stay up-to-date on the latest scientific developments while he’s on the run.
