The Flash's King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd Fight Is Looking Good for Season 5

The Flash EP Todd Helbing teased a showdown between King Shark and Gorilla Grodd when asked to name a storyline he's always wanted to do.

The Flash is gearing up for a showdown between King Shark and Gorilla Grodd.

At the celebration for the show's upcoming 100th episode, CBR caught up with series' executive producer Todd Helbing. Among the other things we discussed, he teased the big fight when asked to name a storyline he's always wanted to do.

"You know, a King Shark/Grodd. We've been trying to do that every year and we just run out of money, but I think we've figured out a way to do it this year," Helbing told CBR, updating a tease that was made during the series' Comic-Con International panel. "So yeah, I'm really excited. We're breaking that story right now, actually. And as long as I don't totally shank the budget, we should be good."

Per Helbing's statement here, The Flash's King Shark/Gorilla Grodd showdown isn't totally set in stone; it will depend entirely on how well they mitigate the Season 5 budget. However, considering the fact that he was more than willing tis hare that they've reached the plotting stage of development, prospects for the massive clash look promising.

Grodd has been a part of the show since the series premiere. He was namedropped in the pilot and shown in a flashback sequence during the Season 1 episode "Plastique" before roaring onto the streets of Central City in "Grodd Lives." He appeared in both Season 2 and 3 for major story arcs, while meriting mentions in Season 4. He has yet to appear in Season 5, but it appears as though he'll return sooner rather than later. Notably, Grodd has also made several key appearances in DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 3.

On the other hand, King Shark made a surprise appearance in The Flash Season 2's "The Fury of Firestorm," then became the focus of the aptly-titled episode "King Shark" later on that season. He also reappeared in Season 3's "Infantino Street" and in a cameo during 2017's four-show Arrowverse crossover "Crisis on Earth-X." His status is unclear at this time, though it is assumed he is back in A.R.G.U.S. custody. To date, the character has never shared the screen with Gorilla Grodd.
