When Iris West-Allen embraces her naturally curly hair in Season 6, The Flash will provide an in-story explanation for her new look.

“It’s a big deal,” Iris actor Candice Patton told TVLine. “I’m happy we were able to do something small that has such large impact.” Considering The CW's push for representation, West-Allen embracing her natural hair is a major moment for the African American character.

The Flash's new showrunner Eric Wallace also weighed in. "There’s a reason her hair is that way in the story, and it has to do with fun, and Iris just being herself and letting the character show more sides of who she is,” he explained. He elaborated on the decision, saying, “It’s also about letting Candice show more sides of who she is as a person and as an actress, which is something I support 100%."

"I wouldn’t be surprised to see it more than once that way this season," he teased.

Returning Tuesday, October 8 at 8 pm on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet and Hartley Sawyer.
