Ahead of the Season 5 premiere of The CW's The Flash, star Grant Gustin has shed on some on the new season's main antagonist Cicada.
Details on the new villain, played by Chris Klein, have largely been kept under wraps so far but Gustin has provided some clues about what to expect from the new enemy while comparing him to Season 2 main villain Hunter Zolomon, better known to comic book fans as Zoom.
"He can dampen other metahuman powers, and we don’t know at first how he’s able to do that. He’s got an edge that no other big bad has ever had. We don’t know who he is. He’s mysterious. He’s just kind of an intimidating, big scary man that can render pretty much all of these metahuman superheroes useless," explained Gustin in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "He comes on really hard and fast the first time we meet him, so right away there’s an intimidation factor that’s through the roof, similar to Zoom."
So far, Cicada has only been glimpsed briefly in a promo for the upcoming fifth season sporting a breathing mask and nasty-looking red knife in the shape of a lightning bolt.
Returning on Tuesday, October 9, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW for its fifth season, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanaugh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet, Hartley Sawyer, and Jessica Parker Kennedy.
