The Flash is speculated to be a loose adaptation of the 2011 limited comic book series Flashpoint by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, in which Barry races back to the past to save his mother, only to create an alternate timeline in the process. Ben Affleck will reprise his DCEU role as Batman in the film for the first time since Justice League, with Muschietti describing Affleck's Caped Crusader as "a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie."

In addition to Affleck, Michael Keaton will reportedly reprise his pre-DCEU role as Batman for the first time since 1992's Batman Returns. Keaton confirmed he was in discussions for the film in October, but claimed it wasn't a done deal yet, saying, "We're talking about it and we'll see if it happens." It has also been confirmed that Ray Fisher's Cyborg will no longer have any kind of role in the production despite earlier reports about Cyborg's importance to The Flash.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script by Christina Hodson, The Flash stars Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck and Billy Crudup. The film arrives in theaters June 2, 2022.
