We now know that we'll be learning more about Caitlin Snow's backstory when "Flash" returns for its third season this October. As revealed by EW, "Vampire Diaries" alum Susan Walters has been cast as Snow's mother, a character named Carla Tannhauser.
EW describes Susan Walters' new character as a "world class biomedical engineer and CEO of a major research company." But Snow (played by Danielle Panabaker) won't exactly get along with her mother. The season two episode "Back to Normal" revealed that Snow has both a brother she's never discussed and has an icy relationship with her mom. EW notes that Caitlin finds her mom "cold and withholding" and Carla thinks her daughter is "rebellious and ungrateful."
This development will likely please Panabaker, who has wanted to explore more of Caitlin Snow's home life. "I feel like they teased a little bit about Caitlin's mother at the end of season two and their dynamic when Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost were talking to each other," Panabaker told the press last month at Comic-Con International in San Diego. "That's something I'm very curious about. We obviously know a lot about the West family, we've met Cisco's family. I'd like to learn a little more about Caitlin's family."
"The Flash" returns for season three on the CW on October 4.
