With most superhero casting rumors come formal denials, as has been the case with Josh Holloway and the delayed Man of Steel sequel. Rumors surfaced that the ex-Lost castaway would once again return to the water, this time in the form of Aquaman in the Superman sequel that might just be turning into a Justice League movie. But those rumors are just rumors, according to Holloway.

"It hasn’t been brought to my attention by my people," the Intelligence leading man said to IGN, "so maybe they’re just floating it softly around, but that would be cool!"

Even though Holloway's involvement in the expanding DC cinematic universe is just a rumor at this point, it got us thinking about other heroes Holloway would be perfect for.

Green Arrow

Stephen Amell's already won fans over with his portrayal of Oliver Queen on the CW's Arrow, but it remains to be seen if he will make the jump to the big screen in a future DC movie. Holloway can handle the determination, brooding, and physicality needed to play Queen on a screen larger than a television set's. Plus, Holloway's more mature looks would fit in perfectly alongside Henry Cavill's Superman, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, and Ben Affleck's Batman, since the character's destined to show up in Warner Bros. eventual Justice League movie.

Gambit

Fox has already approached Holloway to portrayed the ragin' Cajun twice in the past, but the actor's commitments to Lost and Fox's ever-changing plans for the character kept it from happening. The role eventually went to Taylor Kitsch, who played Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that doesn't mean that the role's not in the cards for Holloway. With his natural charm and charisma, Holloway could easily slip into Gambit's trench coat and redefine the role. And with X-Men: Days of Future Past's time-travel shenanigans, there could be ample reason for recasting the character with the slightly older Holloway in a future film.

Longshot

It's a long shot that this four-fingered, knife-throwing, leather-wearing, mullet-sporting, quasi-mutant, sometime-X-Man would ever make it into a feature film – but then again, X-Men: Days of Future Past includes equally unknown and/or oddball characters like Sunspot and Blink. So, it could happen. Holloway could easily bring his Gambit-like charm to this role, except he would have to play it with a lot more positivity and childlike wonder. Considering that Longshot is a constantly upbeat artificially created freedom fighter from a TV-obsessed alternate reality, we have to imagine that he makes people at least slightly uncomfortable. A guy with Josh Holloway's naturally intense demeanor constantly smiling seems like the exact right type of uncomfortable.

Guy Gardner

Even though Guy Gardner is only the third most likely Green Lantern to show up in a DC movie (after John Stewart and Hal Jordan), we still think the role could – and should – go to Holloway. Gardner's defining trait is that he's a bit of a loudmouth jerk, and that's the type of character that Holloway excels at portraying. Just imagine all the snarky put-downs Sawyer uttered on Lost, just void of any semblance of subtlety and with triple the arrogance. Right? A less serious actor could easily play Gardner for laughs, but it would be better to have an actor that could inject some gravitas into the role. Holloway can pull that off.

Venom

Fans got to see Holloway play a secret agent in 2011's "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol," and we think the genre suited his talents well. That's why Holloway would kill it as Flash Thompson in a Venom movie built around the character's recent ongoing series. In order to continue fighting on behalf of the U.S. Military even after the loss of both of his legs, Flash Thompson agrees to bond with Spider-foe Eddie Brock's old alien symbiote to become Agent Venom. The series followed Thompson as he fought against the symbiote's corrupting nature in order to be a hero, which is material that would provide Holloway with one of the meatiest roles of his career. Sony has already stated that they have a Venom film in the works, and we have our fingers crossed that they're talking about this Venom.
