The first photos from 21st Century Fox's X-Men: Dark Phoenix have arrived, offering a glimpse at Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, and the first look at Jessica Chastain's still-unnamed character. Plus, there's a new image of Sophie Turner's Jean Grey as Phoenix, in all the character's fiery glory.

But perhaps the most interesting photo is the one that depicts Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and several of his X-Men at a rainy funeral. Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp) are standing alongside the Professor, leaving the list of possible victims fairly wide open. Is this the team saying farewell to Jean after the Phoenix force consumes her? Or will the franchise bid farewell to Lawrence's character?

"I would call Dark Phoenix a drama," Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly in a quote accompanying the funeral image. "We have really great action scenes and we go to space like within the first five minutes of the movie. So it’s definitely exciting but emotionally all these characters are taking the biggest, most extreme dives than they have in the whole series

The Entertainment Weekly issue, which will explore the upcoming movie in depth, is on sale Friday.
