Leave it to Steven Spielberg to get me interested in a movie about a boy and his horse. The debut trailer for the legendary filmmaker’s December-releasing adaptation of the young adult novel War Horse has hit the ‘net. It’s vintage Spielberg, too, all picturesque tableau vivants and stirring music from composer John Williams.
War Horse is based on the book of the same name by Michael Morpurgo. The story charts the friendship between a young man (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse Joey before the two are pushed apart when the animal is forced into service during World War I. Too young to enlist himself, Albert sets out to recover his lost friend. Meanwhile, Joey has adventures of his own during the war, on both sides.
That’s about as detailed as I can get without having read the book, and as detailed as I want to get. Better to just be swept up in what will hopefully be another magical tale from Spielberg. He hasn’t done anything as a director that’s blown me away since Catch Me If You Can, and that came out in 2002. It would be nice to see him … ahem … get back on the horse with this one.
