WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers Universe #3, available now from Boom! Studios.

The Power Rangers have come across a myriad of morphinomenal figures over the course of nearly thirty years, though few if any have stood as tall as the Emissaries Three. These Morphin deities have become an integral part of the Rangers' lives in the pages of the comics as the representatives of the enigmatic Morphin Masters. Thankfully, Power Rangers Universe has taken readers all the way back to the dawn of the Masters themselves, and from the looks of things, they and the Emissaries might be one and the same.

The Morphin Masters have been fighting tirelessly to save themselves, if not their entire world, from the invading forces of Dark Specter. They have also made a powerful ally in the form of the Morphinaut, better known to fans as the Phantom Ranger. By siphoning some of the raw Grid Energy coursing through the Morphinaut's body, the Morphin Masters have undergone what might be the very first transformations in Power Rangers history. These aren't the only unexpected changes that the young heroes are destined to go through, as Rhian suddenly morphs from one Red Ranger form into another in the heat of battle. While her teammates are able to rescue her, they too experience their own abrupt shifts in the pages of Power Rangers Universe #3 (by Nicole Andelfinger, Simone Ragazzoni, Mattia Iacono, and Ed Dukeshire), and these changes could be a grim omen of things to come.

Much like the Morphin Masters are seen doing during the course of their own journey, the Emissaries Three are iconic for the way their bodies constantly morph from one Ranger to another. These Red, Yellow, and Blue Mighty Morphin deities were first introduced in 2018's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers FCBD Special, during the era in which Lord Drakkon had completely shattered both the Morphin Grid and reality. As the Rangers of the present understand them, the Emissaries Three are both representatives of the Morphin Masters and the benevolent counterparts to the all-powerful Empyreal threats. Now that readers have been given a glimpse into the faraway past and origin of the Morphin Masters, however, the story of the Emissaries has had a few new holes punched through it.

If what the Rangers of the present know about the Emissaries is true, then Power Rangers Universe may very well be a story of how the Morphin Masters themselves were transformed into the Emissaries Three. This would be an undeniably shocking revelation, though it wouldn't be the only one if that were the case. The idea that the Masters and Emissaries could be one and the same would open up the very likely possibility that the Empyreals were born from the very same team of ancient cosmic heroes. It has already been well established that the Morphin Grid and Dark Specter exist as polar opposites that are still inextricably tied to one another, with the Phantom Ranger standing as a testament to just how intertwined their powers are. If the Emissaries rose from the ranks of the Morphin Masters, so too would the Empyreals have, tainting both of their respective histories in a genuinely devastating new light.

On the other hand, if all of this were true, it could give the heroes of the present invaluable insight into the battles they will be fighting in the coming months. Should this speculation miss the mark, these latest transformations could still be a strong indication of how connected, and interchangeable, the Power Rangers' abilities actually are. No matter how exciting the Morphin Masters' story is, all of the questions and implications it has on the future of their universe have quickly made themselves an even more thrilling aspect of the series. With any luck, they won't also be what undoes all of the Rangers' hard work when the past finally catches up to them.
