First Order Rises on 'Empire's' 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Cover

"Empire" magazine has unveiled the first of two covers for its upcoming winter preview issue, this one spotlighting the First Order from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens": Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma, Adam Driver's Kylo Ren and Domhnall Gleeson's General Hux.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film is set 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi," and features a blend of new characters -- like Finn, Rey and Poe Dameron -- and familiar faces alike.

Opening Dec. 18, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" also stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Max von Sydow and Lupita Nyong’o.

"Empire's" winter preview issue arrives Aug. 27.
