If you were expecting the first official image from Super 8 to reveal something more about the movie's plot or whatever it is in that train car, then you probably don't know much about secretive writer-director J.J. Abrams. But if you were expecting something in keeping with the film's 1980s inspirations, like E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, The Goonies and Stand By Me, then that's pretty much what you get. We glimpsed the shot of stars Elle Fanning and Joel Courtney before, in the trailer that debuted last month, but here it is again.
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
The movie, which opens on June 10, also stars Amanda Michalka, Kyle Chandler, Ron Edlard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso and Zach Mills.
