While the wait for this week's return of AMC's "The Walking Dead" may have a strange pall cast over it on the comic book front, the zombie juggernaut continues to expand its media footprint one shambling step at a time. Aside from the earlier news of the week about "Walking Dead" Minimate toys, CBR News is happy to bring word that tech-savvy fans of the TV show can now play along with AMC's new "The Walking Dead Story Synch."

Debuting just in time for the return of the show's second season (which writer Robert Kirkman discussed with CBR here), this new app for tablet devices and home computers will allows viewers to play along with the zombie killing action in several ways. Check out the early images from the apps features including a gore gauge, kill count and inside looks at the characters and their weaponry right here. The network described the full app as follows:

"Launching this Sunday, February 12th at 9pm is The Walking Dead Story Sync, a web-based application playable on tablet devices and computers that allows viewers to interact with other viewers and the show during the premiere broadcasts of season 2 of 'The Walking Dead.' Fans get to weigh in, via polls, on important topics and how characters should handle critical situations. They get background trivia (and also test their knowledge with trivia questions), special graphics, maps, photos and a weekly kill count, as well as a sneak peek of the next week's episode and an instant replay of a key scene. The application also supports live discussion of the show via Twitter and AMCtv.com live 'Watch and Chat' in which fans gather in a moderate chat space to watch the show together."
