Netflix debuted a new teaser for "A Series of Unfortunate Events," revealing our first official look of Neil Patrick Harris as the villainous Count Olaf.

For those who haven't read the bestselling novels or watched the 2004 film, Olaf is the new guardian of the three Baudelaire orphans who plots at every turn to obtain their family inheritance. Although brief, the teaser reveals how menacing Harris is in his new role. When described as "horrible" and "awful," Olaf proclaims to the children they "haven't the faintest idea."

Netflix's description of the teaser reads as if it were written by Olaf himself: "Meet the star of a new Netflix series telling the story of a very handsome actor and three selfish and ungrateful orphans who refuse to give him the enormous fortune their dead parents left behind."

Based on the children's novels written by Lemony Snicket, the Netflix series follows the tragic upbringing of the Baudelaire children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny. In addition to Harris, the adaptation stars Malina Weissman as Violet, Louis Hynes as Klaus, Bernadette Peters as Aunt Josephine and Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket.

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" will premiere Jan. 13 on Netflix with an eight-episode first season.
