First Look At Martin Freeman And Ian McKellen In The Hobbit

Although we've been treated to a few behind-the-scenes photos from The Hobbit -- most memorably a costumed Ian McKellen in 3D glasses, and the White Council at play -- this morning Entertainment Weekly has the first official images from Peter Jackson's two-movie adaptation.

Appropriately enough, they're shots of stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins -- He fits the ears, and he's got some very nice feet,'' the director says -- and McKellen once again as Gandalf the Grey.

The two lead a sprawling ensemble cast that includes Richard Armitage, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Bret McKenzie, Graham McTavish, Mike Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Conan Stevens, Ken Stott, Jeffrey Thomas, Aidan Turner, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Barry Humphries, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on Dec. 14, 2012, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again on Dec. 13, 2013.
