First Full Trailer For Syfy's Alphas

Syfy has unveiled the first trailer for Alphas, the upcoming Heroes-esque superhuman thriller co-created by X:Men: The Last Stand screenwriter Zak Penn.

Starring Emmy Award winner David Strathairn, the series follows five people with extraordinary abilities -- they're detailed in the trailer -- brought together to investigate cases that point to others with superhuman abilities. "They don't know that they're being brought in as a potential S.W.A.T. team member," Strathairn reveals in the video. As they work together to solve these new types of crimes, they have prevent their quirky personalities and disparate backgrounds from interfering with their mission.

In other words, a super-powered cop show. The cable channel apparently thinks the series has potential, though, as Entertainment Weekly says it's rolling out this trailer with movies like The Hangover Part II, X-Men: First Class, Super 8 and Green Lantern.

Alphas, which premieres July 11 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, also stars Malik Yoba (New York Undercover, Why Did I Get Married?), Warren Christie (October Road), Laura Mennell (Watchmen), Ryan Cartwright (Mad Men, Bones) and Azita Ghanizada (Castle).
