Tonight's Season 1 "Legends of Tomorrow" finale changed up the status quo quite a bit, with a shocking appearance, unexpected departures and a wrap on the inaugural season's story arc -- but it in addition to all that, the "Legendary" episode saw an evolution of Firestorm's powers, as the character displayed his transmutation abilities that fans of the comics are familiar with.

In the episode, Jax (Franz Drameh) and Prof. Stein (Victor Garber) develop the transmutation ability to stop Savage, as they needed a way to disrupt the Season 1 villain's plan of detonate three meteors on the Earth in three separate time periods. Using the new skill, the duo managed to transform one of the meteors into water.

Firestorm's transmutation powers give the series' version of the character the power to -- as the DC Comics' recap describes it -- "rearrange subatomic particles of any kind of inorganic material to change its shape and composition."

These powers come in a timely fashion, as writer-producer Marc Guggenheim has teased a villain that will make Savage look "like a walk in the park" for Season 2...
