Thanks to a premise that allows them to travel all across the timestream, "Legends of Tomorrow" can include characters from both the past and the future. According to TV Line, the show has added one guest actor that will play a character from the "Arrow"-verse's future.

Jewel Staite will play Rachel Turner, described as a "tech genius/roboticist who exists in a future in which technology has an even firmer grip on our lives than it does today." The announcement also mentions that Turner, scheduled to appear in the show's tenth episode, is the latest in a long line of inventors and the descendent of a DC Comics character. The character description states that Rachel Turner "believes that her creations can make that world a better place," but that her inventions are "destined" to be taken by "Legends" villain Vandal Savage, who will use them as tools for world conquest.

The announcement does not mention exactly which character she calls a distant relative, although there are plenty of tech geniuses that have been established in the CW series "Arrow" and "The Flash," as well as some that have yet to appear (like Ted Kord).

Staite has a enjoyed a lengthy career in television starring in a number of fan-favorite genre properties. She played Kaylee Frye on the Joss Whedon series "Firefly" and in its follow-up feature film "Serenity"; more recently she's appeared on "Stargate Atlantis" and "The Killing."

"Legends of Tomorrow" premieres on the CW on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8 PM ET.
