The female characters have a considerable amount of influence in the game. They all find different ways to improve Fódlan after the time skip and after the war is over. Each character feels meaningful, but some of them stand out as top-tier waifus, thanks to their strength on the battlefield, their personalities, and their updated character designs.

10 Annette Is One Of The Sweetest Characters

Annette is refreshingly sweet and optimistic, making it easy for her classmates to like her. She enjoys studying with others, as it provides her with a variety of different perspectives. She is usually the first to approach others, and she can be fiercely protective of her friends, as seen when she rushed to protect Mercedes.

Annette likes helping others as well, but she is extremely clumsy and often makes things worse than they were before. Her knowledge and her cheerful demeanor made her an excellent teacher in many of her possible endings.

9 Shamir Isn't As Prickly As She Initially Seems

Shamir is a mercenary who worked for the Church of Seiros in order to repay a debt to Rhea. Unlike many of the knights there, she is not devoted to the Church or Rhea. She doesn't speak much, but she is an incredibly talented sniper. She often catches students off guard by sniping bugs they didn't notice. Likewise, she unintentionally sneaks up on them since she is naturally good at hiding her presence.

Although Shamir acts aloof, she is able to bond with and acts as a mentor to the students that do approach her. Once she knows a person well enough, she is finally able to speak honestly, which always surprises the other party.

8 Catherine Is Devoted And Cares For The People

Catherine is one of the most powerful knights in the Church of Seiros, as well as the most devout. Feeling as though she owes Rhea a great debt, she can't tolerate anyone so much as questioning the Church. She is so devoted to Rhea that she stays with her even during her darkest moments in the Crimson Flower route.

Despite earning a name for herself and being from nobility, Catherine has no interest in fame or fortune. This allows her to more easily connect with the people in Garreg Mach. In many of her routes, she chooses to retire from her position in order to act as a bodyguard for a loved one, or to help the people in Fodlan.

7 Mercedes Gains Renown For Her Generosity

Mercedes is like a big sister to her friends. She is gentle and kind, and she can often see the good in others when nobody else can. She is usually the best person to go to for advice, as she is often able to keep a level head. When the other characters open up to her, she is always sympathetic and usually knows just what to say to comfort them.

Even after the war, Mercedes continues to help people in need. The way that she goes about doing so varies depending on the ending the player chooses. In many of these routes, she decides to run an orphanage and is beloved for her generosity.

6 Leonie Is Motivated And Doesn't Need A Crest

Leonie holds up a fist and smiles

Leonie's best traits shine when Byleth isn't around. Although she is inspired by Jeralt, her main motivation for becoming a mercenary is to help her village. Thanks to her modest background, she likes to reuse and repurpose things, and she can't stand to be wasteful. This trait of hers shows that she is also intelligent, even to the point where she was able to outwit Felix.

Without a crest, Leonie has to work harder to prove that she can keep up with the people that do, but she is just as capable as anyone else. Additionally, Leonie has a tendency to be blunt, which can act as a double-edged sword. However, Leonie is quick to apologize when she knows she is in the wrong.

5 Byleth Is Beloved By Her Students For Good Reason

Although Byleth starts off rather stoic, bonding with her students makes her a more expressive person. She is not only an effective teacher, but she provides students support in a variety of ways. She offers advice, helps them with their problems, celebrates their birthdays, and returns their missing items.

Byleth's actions may reflect the actions of the player, but as the tactician with the power to rewind time, she has saved the lives of her students on more than one occasion. She is deeply caring when it comes to her students, earning her their admiration and affection.

4 Dorothea Uses Her Knowledge And Talent To Help Others

Dorothea Arnault holding her hand to her chest in front of a beautiful sunset in Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Dorothea was an orphan living on the streets until she was found by Manuela and taken in by the Mittelfrank Opera Company. While in the Officers Academy, Dorothea has a flirty personality, although she is upfront that she acts this way in order to find someone to marry. In reality, she is afraid of living on the streets again.

In her endings, Dorothea either uses her knowledge as a commoner to help reform Fódlan, or she uses her talents as a songstress to entertain and soothe her audiences. In her ending with Manuela, the pair donated their profits to those in need.

3 Hilda Is Lazy But Likes To Help Others

Hilda is lazy, preferring to pour her efforts into convincing others to do the work for her. However, she isn't heartless, often getting upset if she misses out on the opportunity to thank someone, even scolding Ignatz for helping her without her knowledge.

Hilda is even willing to help people if she sees that they really need it. When she noticed Marianne making a mess in the library when trying to clean, she couldn't help but pitch in. Hilda likes to do small things for people as well, making jewelry and even offering advice when people need it. Helping others often makes her feel satisfied in the end.

2 Marianne Is Always Thinking Of Others

Marianne was a withdrawn girl who often avoided interacting with others because she believed her crest would bring misfortune. She slowly builds more confidence through her interactions with others, who point out her strengths in things such as gardening and speaking to animals, neither of which have experienced the misfortune she claimed befell upon those around her.

After the time skip, Marianne seems to be a completely different person, taking great care in her appearance and becoming more confident. Fans considered this to be one of the most satisfying glow-ups, as it symbolized that she was finally learning to treat herself with the same kindness that she showed others.

1 Edelgard Is The Reason Why Fódlan Improved

Edelgard's main goal throughout the game is to unite the entire continent under the Adrestrian Empire. She was aware of society's flawed nature, as people put too much stock in crests. People who were unqualified were in power because of this. She decided that war was the best option, as achieving her goal of unification would mean fewer casualties in the future.

In reality, regardless of the route that the player chooses, it is thanks to Edelgard that such drastic social reforms are able to occur. Society may not have changed for many more years if not for her.
