Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd is the prince of Faerghus and the house leader of the Blue Lions in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He is introduced as a kind, caring person with a dark past who becomes bitter after the betrayal of Edelgard von Hresvelg.
His survival is dependent on which house Byleth chooses to instruct, as he usually has a tragic ending if Byleth does not choose his house. In the Azure Moon route, Dimitri becomes a bloodthirsty character who is obsessed with revenge, but he eventually redeems himself. With such a character arc, Dimitri has done many things right and other things terribly wrong.
10 RIGHT: He Wanted To Save His Parents From Limbo
Players got a surprising insight into Dimitri's beliefs through a support conversation between Claude and Annette. In the eastern regions of Faerghus, it is believed that people who die with regrets end up in a hellish limbo. Trapped in the dark, they are constantly searching for an escape. Dimitri believed that his family was in this state after their sudden deaths in the Tragedy of Duscur and that getting revenge on the ones responsible would bring them peace.
9 WRONG: He Threatens To Torture Randolph
After defeating Imperial forces who attacked the Monastery, the leader Randolph was captured. Dimitri confronts him and calls him out for his murder of countless people. Although Randolph states that he only did so to protect his family, Dimitri mocks him and states that he is a monster like him. He makes promises to torture him, but Byleth has to step in and execute him to prevent him from suffering a cruel fate at Dimitri's hands.
8 RIGHT: Dimitri Is Always Kind To Dedue
Dedue had a tough life following the assassination of Dimitri's father, King Lambert. The people of Duscur were blamed for the tragedy, which led to a conflict that killed his parents. Dimitri never discriminated against Dedue, saving his life and allowing Dedue to serve as his retainer. Dedue received much discrimination, but never from Dimitri. Dimitri trusted him completely and always insisted that Dedue should treat him like a friend rather than as a prince.
7 WRONG: His Willingness To Die Led To Rodrigue's Sacrifice
After learning of her brother's death, Fleche joined Dimitri's army with the intent of getting revenge. Dimitri recognized who she was after she made an attempt on his life and made no move to defend himself.
He seemed to accept death at her hands since he was familiar with the feeling of wanting to avenge someone, but Rodrigue threw himself between them to take the fatal blow. This act allowed Dimitri to regain his humanity, but he only learned to value his own life at the expense of someone else's.
6 RIGHT: Dimitri Never Wanted To Use Crest Stones In His Battle Against Edelgard
Before the all-important battle in the Crimson Flower route, Dedue gave the soldiers Crest Stones so that they would turn into Demonic Beasts. This made them difficult to kill but also turned them into mindless monstrosities. Dedue did this without informing Dimitri because he knew that Dimitri would never approve of it, and Dimitri was horrified as he watched his comrades turn into monsters. Dedue himself will also transform if the player doesn't defeat him quickly enough. Even if Dimitri won, he wouldn't consider it a true victory.
5 WRONG: He Pushed Himself Too Far In Verdant Wind
Verdant Wind was the route in which Byleth chose to teach the Golden Deer. In this route, Dimitri joined the battle on Grondor Field with an army of his own. The player did not get a chance to see his fate, but Byleth was eventually informed that Dimitri had been too relentless in his pursuit of Edelgard.
Fatigued and reckless, Dimitri died a tragic death. Dedue inherited his will and pursued Edelgard in Dimitri's stead, desperate to fulfill his friend's last wish.
4 RIGHT: Dimitri Asked To Meet With Edelgard Peacefully
Dimitri, finally back to his old self, sent Edelgard a request to meet. Neither attacked the other, and Dimitri asked what Edelgard's motivations were for starting the war. They had a brief exchange and quickly realized that their beliefs were too different to come to an agreement. Later, after defeating Edelgard in their final battle, he even wanted to spare her life. Despite spending a large portion of the war wanting her dead, he made a genuine attempt to reconcile.
3 WRONG: He Completely Disregarded Human Lives
After Byleth's disappearance, Dimitri was captured and imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. Dedue seemingly sacrificed his own life to free Dimitri, and for the next few years, rumors circulated of a sadistic soldier who killed countless people. These rumors had truth to them, as Dimitri had become a bloodthirsty individual who, according to Felix, acted like a wild boar in battle. He believed that everyone who got in the way of his revenge deserved death.
2 RIGHT: Dimitri Devoted His Life To Becoming A Great Ruler
Dimitri was able to return to his old self, but the guilt he felt about all the lives he had taken never disappeared. He concluded that the only way to make up for his crimes was to spend the rest of his life helping as many people as possible. As the ruler of the continent, Dimitri improved relations with other countries and even rebuilt the government so that the masses would have a say in politics. He became a king who was greatly respected by his people.
1 WRONG: He Pushed His Friends Away
Before the death of Rodrigue, Dimitri viewed his friends as tools for him to use as he saw fit. He promised Byleth to work them into the ground if they really wanted to stay with him. In the monastery, he refused to attend any classes and stood alone. He was extremely fortunate that the rest of the Blue Lions students chose to fight at his side in the Azure Moon route, as it would have been completely justified if they had decided to leave.
