WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Final Space Season 3, Episode 4, "One of Us," which aired Saturday on Adult Swim.
After spending months inside final space, the crew are starting to gain some control over their situation. The previous episode saw Mooncake reunited with Gary, as well as HUE regaining his role as the A.I. However, a major secret was revealed regarding Little Cato's true parentage, and while that did not come into play this week, the team lost a valuable member to Invictus again.
Little Cato, Avocato, Ash, Fox and Cheryl found themselves in Invictus' prison, being led by a Titan-evolved Lord Commander. He chained them up, leaving Ash behind. This launched them into a fight, with both seemingly evenly powered until the Lord Commander threw all he had at Ash, breaking her fingers and launching her into a mountain.
As the fight went on, the imprisoned crew tried to escape the chains, with Cheryl easily getting out, further proving that there is no prison that can hold her. She escaped and grabbed a communicator from another prisoner and sent Gary a message, altering him of their danger.
Meanwhile, Little Cato, Avocato and Fox laid helpless as Invictus drew closer and closer to them. Just before he could take hold, the Galaxy 2 blasted through. Gary and the Lord Commander had a much needed rematch, where Gary discovered his robotic arm had the potential to become a weapon as it came from a SAME.
With the Lord Commander down, Gary made his way over to his friends, breaking their chains with seconds to spare. Unfortunately, he was unable to save Fox as Invictus took over his body, forcing the team to leave him behind. While reunited, the loss of Fox weighed heavy on Ash, who also dealt with the revelation that her powers come from the Titans. Ash has always been protective of Fox, and this was shown heavily back in Season 2 when their adopted father, Clarence, injured Fox, and Ash rushed over to try and save her brother.
This is not the first time a member of the crew was taken over by Invictus, as Avocato and Gary became victims after Avocato's resurrection. They managed to break free of the possession, proving that it is possible to escape Invictus' hold, yet with all the extra power he is gaining, it is uncertain if Fox will make it out of final space alive.
