Universal has released the third full trailer for The Mummy. Where trailer #1 focused almost solely on action and Trailer #2 turned the spotlight onto the background of the titular Mummy, this third sneak peek puts the focus squarely on Tom Cruise's Nick Morton and the lengths he will have to go to stop an impending new world of gods and monsters.

Fans have known for some time now that Universal is positioning The Mummy as the entry point into a shared universe for the studio's classic monster properties. This latest trailer gives the clearest look so far into where Tom Cruise's character, who has apparently been cursed with superpowers, will fit into this grand scheme. Featuring narration by Dr. Jekyll (Russell Crowe), the trailer opens with the now-familiar plane crash that should have killed Cruise, but which he miraculously survives. It's soon revealed by Dr. Jekyll that Nick Morton (Cruise) survived due to a curse placed on him by the Mummy (Sofia Boutella). According to Jekyll, Morton will need to embrace his own inner monster to have any chance of taking down the eponymous creature.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman and based on a script from John Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie, The Mummy will star Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe. Look for it in theaters on June 9.
