Final Fantasy's One-Winged Angel is officially joining Smash.

Announced at The Game Awards 2020, main antagonist Sephiroth from the beloved Final Fantasy VII is the latest DLC fighter to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate -- and will be available for download sometime this month. Sephiroth is the second Final Fantasy character to join Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. series of fighting games as a playable character, following Final Fantasy VII's hero, Cloud Strife -- who first appeared as a DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U before joining the base roster of Ultimate.

Sephiroth is the third new fighter to be released as part of Fighter Pass Vol. 2 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, following Arms' Min Min and Minecraft's Steve and Alex. He is also the game's eighth DLC fighter overall, with Fighter Pass Vol. 1 consisting of Persona's Joker, Dragon Quest's Hero, the eponymous characters of Banjo-Kazooie, Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard and Fire Emblem: Three Houses' Byleth.

Moreover, there are still an additional three characters set to be released as part of Fighter Pass Vol. 2, which will bring Ultimate to a grand total of 11 DLC fighters. This is on top of the massive base roster for the game, which features 76 fighters right out of the box (74 if you count Pokémon Trainer as one fighter).
