Nomura has worked with Square Enix's iconic franchise since Final Fantasy IV, before rising to principal character designer for Final Fantasy VII. He helped craft the seminal installment's story and the gameplay concept of Limit Break attacks.
Square Enix announced development on a remake to Final Fantasy VII in 2015, with plans to rebuild the game from the ground up with modern graphics retelling the same classic story. The original version of the game, released in 1997, received universal critical acclaim and sold 9.8 million copies, helping solidify the original PlayStation as one of the bestselling consoles of all time.
The enhanced remake of Final Fantasy VII is developed and published by Square Enix. It is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
