The Pride and Joy Prototype is one of Final Fantasy VII Remake's many hidden bosses and defeating it yields one of the best items in the game: "Gotterdammerung," which provides the user a full limit break upon entering battle. It also gradually fills the limit gauge for the duration of the fight.

Unfortunately, defeating the Pride and Joy Prototype is easier said than done. For context, the Pride and Joy Prototype is a large-scale, robotic weapon that was deemed too dangerous and discontinued. It was recreated in virtual reality by Chadley and can be fought after defeating four other summons. However, it's rather complicated to even just find Pride and Joy Prototype.

Here's how to find this boss and how to send it back to the scrap heap.

Find Pride and Joy Prototype

There are a lot of hoops players have to run through to even get access to Pride and Joy Prototype. For one, players have to beat the entire game at least once, on any difficulty. In addition, they have to clear all Battle Intel reports, which can be completed through Chadley. Finally, players have to complete all the Corneo Colosseum and Shinra Combat Simulator battle challenges.

As a side note, it's also necessary to complete Aerith's solo challenges in Chapter 9 (after defeating the Hell House) and complete Hard Mode only challenges (only the rank 5 and higher count). Once players have done their homework, a cutscene in Chapter 17 will play where Chadley will grant access to the rank 7 battle challenge on the 66th floor, Holo's Laboratory. After all that grunt work, players can challenge Pride and Joy Prototype. Be aware this boss is only available on Hard Mode.

Prepare Yourself

One of the main reasons why Pride and Joy Prototype is so difficult is because Final Fantasy VII Remake players have to fight through four different summons just to get to it, which means facing off against five bosses in total: Shiva, Fat Chocobo, Leviathan, Bahamut and finally Pride and Joy.

In general, players probably want to have fully leveled characters, materia and equipment before attempting this challenge -- to reiterate, it requires fighting five bosses in a row. Players will get 50 percent HP and MP restore upon defeating each boss, but it's best to be prepared anyway.

Some general tips for Pride and Joy (or for the gauntlet in general) are to pair the Magnify Materia with Curaga or Barrier. That way, players will be able to either majorly heal everyone in the party or negate significant amounts of damage. It would also be wise to have the Revival Materia, as Pride and Joy (as well as other bosses) has access to an instant kill move. Pride and Joy specifically has a weakness to Lighting, so consider using Spells that utilize that element.

Be warned: Pride and Joy is resistant to Wind and completely immune to certain status effects including Poison, Silence, Sleep, Slow, Berserk, Stop and Fixed Damage.

As for a recommended Party, Cloud, Aerith and Tifa are the best bet. Cloud will primarily serve as a damage dealer and dedicated tank. With the Counterstance ability, Cloud can also deal damage back to the opponent whenever he is hit. Aerith will generally be playing the healer role, since she has the highest Magic attribute in the game. However, she can also provide great burst damage with Offensive Spells.

If players are worried about losing team members, consider giving her Revival Earrings as well. Otherwise, stick with the Circlet to boost Aeirth's MP and attack power. Tifa is great at increasing Stagger Percent, so utilize her to get more free hits on the bosses.

Compared to the other Final Fantasy VII Remake bosses, Pride and Joy Prototype isn't too hard to take down. The majority of its attacks aim forward, so simply strike it from behind. It also has a really slow movement and turn-speed, so players can continually flank it.

Pride and Joy Prototype will sometimes use a Fire Area of Effect attack around itself that can very easily deplete a character's health. Thankfully, as long as they move away from the flames, it shouldn't deal too much damage. Keep distance and pepper it with Lightning Magic. The Prototype will sometimes fire a giant laser beam from its core which can do a lot of damage, even if blocked. However, it takes a while to charge this move, so use that opportunity to get out of the way and hit it from behind.

Finally, Joy and Pride Prototype has a sudden grab attack called "Catch" that grabs and immobilizes a character. If said character doesn't break free, Pride and Joy will slam them into the ground and deal nearly 9,999 damage in a single hit. This will almost certainly kill a character, so have a Revive ready. The alternative is to continually hit the hand or stagger Pride and Joy so it drops the afflicted character.

Keep whaling on Pride and Joy Prototype and be on the look out for his long ranged beam and grab. Before long, the Prototype will be defeated and players will have earned the most powerful Accessory in Final Fantasy VII Remake.
