The third and final trailer for The Dark Knight Rises will be shown ahead of Marvel's The Avengers, which arrives in U.S. theaters May 4. The news was uncovered by the Christopher Nolan fan site Nolan Fans, and has since been confirmed with Warner Bros. by The Hollywood Reporter and other outlets.
It's become a tradition of sorts for Warner Bros. to use a Marvel release to promote a Nolan film: The trade paper points out that a trailer for Inception ran with Iron Man 2, while the final trailer for The Dark Knight was shown with the first Iron Man.
In other Dark Knight Rises news, The Wall Street Journal talked to Nolan about his past with IMAX and revealed his final Batman film will include more than one hour's worth of IMAX footage, the most ever for a Hollywood feature.
"There was a huge irony that we were told it would be too difficult to shoot a Hollywood movie on IMAX when we had this gigantic camera department, grips, electric, hundreds of people working for us," Nolan said. "These were cameras that had been to the top of Mount Everest, to the bottom of the ocean and into outer space, but people thought we couldn't make a feature film. It was absurd."
The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Tom Hardy as Bane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.
