This is "Went to Tell Somebody," where I spotlighted different cool independent comic book series based on submissions from the indie comic book creators themselves via a set Q & A with the creators themselves. Essentially, the creators speak for their own work and "Went to Tell Somebody" will give them a place to do so!

This is an ongoing weekly feature, so if you would like to see your work spotlighted, as well, there's no time limit or anything like that. So you can submit at any time. It's not a first come/first serve thing, ya know? Click here for the current submission guidelines.

Today, we look at Nick Allen, Troy-Jeffrey Allen, Julius Abrera, Thiago Gomes da Costa and Bryan Magnaye's Fight of the Century!

You can pre-order Fight of the Century here.

What is your comic about?

Fight of the Century (FOTC) is a fist-flying, sci-fi fantasy on steroids, literally. Set in a futuristic Brazil controlled by a Mega-Corporation, FOTC is an action-packed thriller examining humanities desire to become bigger, faster and stronger; while exploring the price we’re willing to pay to reach our maximum potential. Performance-enhancing drugs have gone from behind-the-scenes banned substances to front-and-center game changers.

Our story follows Rex Punga, a down on his luck farmboy-turned-MMA fighter. After a drug-fueled incident that nearly ends his career, Punga will attempt a comeback where he takes on, not only the behemoths in the ring, but the behemoth that is Big Pharma. But this time, he’s going to do it all the old school way: Naturally. With influences from Rocky to Akira to Fist Of The North Star, it’s a classic underdog story in a futuristic athletic setting.

What made you choose to use the comic book medium for this story?

My partner Troy and I have always love comics since we were kids and we've been working on our own projects for years. More importantly, we wanted to create a story where underrepresented people got to see themselves. Plus, we're fans of the those 80s action, anime, and martial art movies.

What aspect of your comic are you most proud of?

Our team. We work with some of the best talent across 3 continents including creators from Brazil, the Philippines, Jamaica, Barbados, etc. Also, there's something gratifying about watching someone's eyes light up when they see a book that they feel like reflects them.

What's the one piece of philosophy and/or advice that has informed your comic book work the most?

Create Comics' Culture is our mantra. We hope to make immersive, inclusive and world-class storytelling experiences. Also, Writers write. Very succinct and profound. You have to keep working to get better.

Since this is "Went to Tell Everybody," tell everybody about another current comic book series that you would like other people to know more about.

Giant Robot Warrior Maintenance Crew. It's a superfun mix of Voltron and horrible bosses created by our cover artist Mervyn McKoy and Nate Hill.

Again, you can pre-order Fight of the Century here.
