Sure, everyone was excited for Avengers: Infinity War to hit theaters and cap off 10 years of amazing Marvel goodness, but it also shouldn't be forgotten that there was another big Marvel release coming soon after. No, not one that is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but most probably the next best thing. Yes, we're talking about Deadpool 2, the next film in a franchise that has given the best on-screen portrayal of the X-Men yet. While the first film focused largely on Wade Wilson, the sequel looks to give more screen-time to some strong female characters like Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Domino.

We have witnessed a real rise in prominence for the female characters of both Marvel and DC, with Black Widow, Wonder Woman, Scarlet Witch and now Captain Marvel coming to the screen, and Deadpool 2 looks to follow that trend by showcasing some powerful female mutants. But the movies aren't the only place where you will find some of the most powerful female mutants. The comic books are filled with lady mutants, both good and bad, who posses all manner of superpowers, each one stronger than the last. Today, CBR dives into the rich history of the X-Men franchise to list the 15 fiercest female mutants, ranked by raw power.

15 DOMINO

Domino isn't exactly the first character you'd think of when listing powerful female superheroes, especially in terms of pure strength and devastating power, but we'd argue that she still has a place on this list. Yes, her mutant gift is certainly more passive than the more powerful superheroes, but the thing is, it always, always works in her favor. Domino's power is to manipulate probabilities, so that she seems like the luckiest person in the entire world.

No matter the situation, no matter how dangerous or life-threatening, her superpower will make it so that she doesn't get hurt, or that she somehow wins out the day.

While this might not be the most obvious “raw” power when compared to the likes of telekinesis or telepathy, it also means that no matter who Domino goes up against, she will find a way to win. No matter what her opponents may throw at her, she will deviate or find a way to avoid. She may not be invincible or unkillable, but she will make it increasingly difficult to put her down. After all, the odds are always in her favor and, as long as she's standing and surviving, she'll keep shooting, and use her probability powers to make sure the environment works in her favor.

14 DAZZLER

Don't let anyone ever tell you that music can't be wielded as a weapon, because Alison Blaire, aka Dazzler, can wield sound as a lethal force. Whatever the sound, whether it's simple concussions from every day life or the stable rhythms of music, Dazzler can manipulate those frequencies and transform them into pure light that she then wields as her weapon. Not only that, she can also control the intensity of this light. It can be steady or pulsing, and she can even change its colors. But Dazzler is more than a light show – not only can she blind people, she can concentrate light into laser attacks.

And yet, concussive blasts are only part of what she can do. With light as her own personal arsenal, she has been known to fly, as well as create three-dimensional constructs of either people or objects. She may not be the most dependable member of the X-Men, but when she is around, she is an actual powerhouse. Her powers bring Dazzler on the same playing field as some of the most powerful female characters of the Marvel Universe, characters to whom she would easily give a run for their money. Plus, on top of all that, she is a hell of a musician. And who doesn't like a good song?

13 MAGMA

Magma from the New Mutants using her mutant abilities to destroy robots

Magma is more commonly known as one of the members of the other, younger team of X-Men called the New Mutants. These characters may be less experienced than Cyclops and the rest of his team, but what they lack in expertise, they more than make up for with raw power. Case in point, Magma, perhaps one of the most powerful members on the New Mutants roster (and perhaps even more powerful than most X-Men). Magma's power is unparalleled. With her geothermal powers, she has a connection with the Earth itself.

She can control the tectonic plates, and use the very fires of the planet's core as her weapon.

When she uses those powers, she is also covered in an energy form of fire and heat, meaning that there is little that can actually hurt her. What's more, this form actually comes with some regenerative abilities. Essentially, the very ground is Magma's weapon, and there is no telling what her limits might be. She can throw balls of fire, and she can crack the Earth apart. She controls lava itself, and she uses it how she sees fit. On top of that, since she is made of fire and heat, those can't affect or hurt her. This means that there isn't much that can be used against her. With this much power, Magma truly ranks as one of the most powerful female mutants.

12 MAGIK

Illyana Rasputin is the leader of the New Mutants and, like Magma, is incredibly powerful. She has many powers and weapons at her disposable, each of them creating a whole that is able to stand against even the most powerful Marvel characters, hero or villain. First and foremost, Illyana has the ability to teleport herself as well as others through both space and time. She can reach other places on Earth in an instant, and even reach back in time through the centuries. What's more, Illyana is also a powerful sorceress. She is an expert wielder of a blend of dark and light magic, which she has learned to master with some help from the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange.

On top of all of that, Magik also has powerful armor and a weapon known as Soulsword at her disposal. The sword was made from her very soul, and it has many mystical properties. It can disrupt the powers of others while amplifying her own and it can also be used as a regular weapon to cut through physical threats. Finally, if all of that weren't enough, Illyana also has the ability to create psychic shields to protect herself from even the most powerful of telepaths. Even Charles Xavier can't affect her, and this truly makes her one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe.

11 PSYLOCKE

Psylocke pin-up

You might have seen a little bit of Psylocke in action in the live-action film X-Men: Apocalypse, but the movie failed to show the character at her best and brightest. She was depicted to be powerful, sure, but the film barely scratched the surface of what Psylocke could really do. Betsy Braddock is a fierce warrior, and that is without her mutant abilities. As an expert martial artist, she is as deadly with her unarmed fighting skills as with her swordsmanship.

There is no foe, no army of opponents she is not willing to fight on the battlefield, and this isn't even counting her telepathy.

Yes, like Professor X, Psylocke is such a powerful telepath that she ranks among the most powerful in the world. She can commune with others and reach the Astral Plane; what's more, she has limited telekinetic powers, which she uses to create psychic blasts and daggers that she uses as a weapon. She often creates a sword made out of this energy, which she uses in most of her adventures. Psylocke isn't necessarily the most well-known female X-Man outside of the comic books, but she is easily able to stand on equal grounds with the likes of Jean Grey.

10 POLARIS

If you've been watching The Gifted television series on Fox, then chances are you might have heard of Polaris. Throughout the first season, the series has gone to great lengths to show the audience that Lorna truly is one of the most powerful female mutants around. After all, while The Gifted didn't use the name, she does get her powers from her father. And it just so happens that her father is Magneto, whose power has long made him one the biggest threats in the Marvel Universe. Yes, like her father, Polaris can manipulate metal in any way she seems fit. Cars, bullets, solid steel beams – they are all her weapons.

Not only can she use her powers to weaponize her environment, she is so powerful that she can even manipulate the magnetic field of the planet. On top of that, she can use the powers of magnetism to make herself fly. Since she is still young, there is no telling yet if her father is more powerful than she is. Perhaps, given the chance and the expertise, she could become even more formidable than Magneto. But even now, even with her powers, there is little that can stand in her way, and that makes her one of the most powerful female mutants around, on the screen or on the comic book page.

9 ARMOR

X-Men Armor

Hisako Ichiki is a fairly recent addition to the X-Men roster. She first appeared in Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men comic book series, where readers found out all about her mutant ability that makes her stand out from the rest of the mutant pack. Like Magik, this is one case where Hisako's codename, Armor, is pretty much self-explanatory. Although it might not appear like much at first glance, Hisako is capable of generating a psychic armor around herself, which appears like a bright red, hard light construct.

Make no mistake, this armor is incredibly powerful.

In fact, the armor grants Hisako great invulnerability and super-strength. With it around her, she is only vulnerable to lasers and adamantium. The rest, she can simply punch through. What's more, this armor is so durable that it has been known to withstand the sheer force and heat that comes with falling through the atmosphere itself, and the impact from the ground. The armor's size can be manipulated, from the size of a normal person to that of an entire building. On top of that, Hisako can manipulate the appearance of her armor, which allows her to create weapons for it to wield. Simply put, Armor is a true powerhouse on the X-Men roster.

8 JUBILEE

Jubilee using her plasma powers with the X-Men from Marvel Comics

There was a time when Jubilee wasn't just a vampire. Yes, in the comic books, Jubilee has gone through recent changes that saw her become a creature of the night. But before that, she was also a mutant, an X-Man with the power to generate firework-like detonations that she could control, however big or small. Jubilee became popular thanks to her inclusion in the old X-Men cartoon series, a television show that more or less presented her as a sidekick, and never really as one of the leading X-Men. But make no mistake, Jubilee holds in her hands great power.

Jubilee has great control of her firework abilities, and it makes her able to go from simply creating a blinding effect to creating devastating explosions. However, the character's power was never exactly tapped to its fullest potential. It's been theorized that the basics of her powers work on an atomic level and that she could be able to create something akin to a nuclear explosion. She may not have gotten the chance to stretch the legs of her powers like that yet, but the potential inside of her still means that she could rival even the heaviest hitters of the Marvel Universe.

7 THE STEPFORD CUCKOOS

Before Fox's The Gifted live-action television series, the Stepford Cuckoos were only mostly known to longtime comic book fans. The Cuckoos were introduced as clones of Emma Frost, although they would later be viewed as her daughters. Originally five sisters, the Cuckoos are more often depicted now as triplets. What makes them stand apart from the usual mutant is that very number. The Cuckoos are not one but three, yet they are still one.

As seen on The Gifted, the three sisters share a hive-mind, and their telepathic abilities are only stronger because of it.

Like their "mother" Emma Frost, the Cuckoos are powerful telepaths. As viewers saw in The Gifted, they were able to have an entire team of guards and police officers turn on each other without breaking a sweat. And that's just for starters. The Cuckoos can also turn to a perfect, flawless diamond form, and they have shown to have little bits of telekinetic powers. On top of that, they once shared a connection with the Phoenix Force, which gave them heightened abilities such as fire blasts, flight and more. The Cuckoos are powerful on their own, but they are much stronger together. The more of them there are, the more powerful they become. When it comes to raw power, three is always better than one.

6 STORM

When most of the powerful mutants of the Marvel Universe deal with magic, telepathy or some manner of fire, very few of them are actually seen as gods. When it comes to sheer, raw power, Storm easily ranks among the top. In fact, her power has made it so that some have come to call her a goddess, and with very good reason. With her power to control the weather, mother nature is Storm's personal weapon. She can create whirlwinds and lightning so powerful that it can bring down Sentinels. What's more, she is very good at controlling her powers.

Like Magma, who can control the fires of the Earth, Storm can manipulate the skies. She can make it rain, hail or snow. Lightning is hers to command, and there are actually very few limits to what she can do. Storm is not just a mutant, she is a literal force of nature, and there is little that would be left standing were she to unleash her full, raw potential. It's a good thing she is on the side of the good guys because such a god-like power could easily pose a threat to the entire world. But in Storm's hands, these powers are more than safe.

5 SCARLET WITCH

Wanda Maximoff's situation is a little bit complicated, but it still earns her a spot on this list. For the longest time, she was the daughter of Magneto. Her brother Pietro and her used their powers as part of the Brotherhood of Mutants, until they eventually became heroes and joined the ranks of the Avengers. However, Wanda's roots as a mutant were very recently retconned away, when it was revealed that she had received her powers from the High Evolutionary. The change isn't exactly accepted by most Marvel fans, which is why we believe the Scarlet Witch still deserves a spot on this list.

Her power is so great that she was even able to create an entire alternate reality where mutants reigned supreme.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wanda is very powerful, with an ability that appears to be telekinetic in nature. However, in the comic books, Wanda's powers are different, and in fact much greater. She can manipulate “chaos magic,” which makes her a powerful sorceress. On top of that, she can alter reality itself. Her power is so great that she was even able to create an entire alternate reality where mutants reigned supreme. Then, when that didn't work, she was able to wipe out almost all mutant powers in the world. When it comes to powerhouses, whether in the movies or the comics, there are few female characters that can match the strength of the Scarlet Witch.

4 HOPE SUMMERS

Hope Summers

Since she is known as the Mutant Messiah, there is little doubt that Hope Summers would feature on this list. The character herself was introduced quite recently in the pages of the Marvel Universe, but what an explosive introduction it was. Hope's arrival came at a time when the few mutants that remained in the world were facing the threat of extinction. There were so few of them left that their numbers were only dwindling. That is, until Hope was born, an arrival which sparked new life into mutantkind. There is still much we don't know about Hope's powers, but her mere arrival was enough to create new mutants.

But we haven't even gotten to what she can actually do. Like Rogue, she can replicate the power of other mutants around her, something that instantly brings her on equal grounds with whatever mutant threat she might be facing. Telepathy, telekinesis, energy blasts – she can mimic it all, at its most powerful. What's more, she has even demonstrated to be a perfect host for the Phoenix Force, which would make her even more powerful than before. But the real truth is that she might not even need it. Hope can activate mutant powers, and she can replicate them. She doesn't need the Phoenix to be powerful. And we've only begun to see the full extent of what she is capable of.

3 EMMA FROST

Emma Frost has been both a hero and a villain, a member of the Hellfire Club and of the X-Men and, no matter which side she ultimately chooses, she will always be one of the most powerful female mutants in the Marvel Universe. Her main gift is that of telepathy, but she has often shown that her strength rivals that of Professor Charles Xavier. With her telepathy, Emma is able to communicate across the globe, and to affect anyone she chooses. What's more, her dubious personality makes it so that she has less restraints than the average hero, which allows her to tap even more into her abilities.

If that weren't enough, Emma also has a second mutation that allows her to shift to a diamond form.

Her body now entirely turned to organic diamond, Emma can no longer user he telepathy, but she turns into an indestructible and super-powered presence. In this form, Emma turns into a physical threat, who can go toe-to-toe with the biggest brawlers. This makes her invulnerable to anything, from explosions to hunger. In her diamond form, Emma Frost can resist almost anything and, in her human form, her telepathy ranks among the most powerful on the planet. There are few who can hold a candle to miss Frost.

2 ROGUE

Mutant, X-Men, Avenger – Rogue is all three at the same time. Such is the nature of her power. In fact, when considering levels of raw power, there are actually very few characters who can compare to Rogue. After all, her original ability makes it so that whomever Rogue touches is drained of his or her life-force. If that person is a mutant or a super-powered individual, then Rogue now has those exact abilities for a little while. This means that whoever she faces doesn't stand a chance – even if that person happens to be Carol Danvers herself, Captain Marvel.

Yes, Captain Marvel and Rogue did end up fighting once, and Rogue managed to siphon her powers. But this time around, it was different. While all the powers Rogue usually absorbs fade after a certain amount of time, she actually retained Captain Marvel's abilities. This means that on top of her usual mutant powers, Rogue also had super-strength, invulnerability, endurance and the power of flight. Therefore, she is perhaps the most powerful X-Man, and one of the biggest powerhouses in the Marvel Universe. When it comes to raw power-levels, there are very few on this list that could hold Rogue down.

1 JEAN GREY/PHOENIX

There are all manner of powerful female mutants in the X-Men comics, but none could ever come close to matching the powers of Jean Grey. She may have been dead for a long time, but even in her absence, no one could come close to taking her place. Jean Grey arrived at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters as a telepathic prodigy, one whose mental capacities could rival Professor X's. But on top of that, she also had the ability to move objects with her mind, an ability that only grew more powerful over time. And yet, all of that pales in comparison to the arrival of the Phoenix Force.

When Jean bonded with the Phoenix, she became a god of the cosmos, a force of the universe whose power-levels were unparalleled.

With the Phoenix, Jean was in another league entirely. Together, they wiped out an entire star system, an event that sparked an intergalactic mess. There is simply no matching the powers of the Phoenix and, even without it, Jean is still one of the most powerful telepaths in the world, one who has recently taken it upon herself to gather the brightest minds of the world in order to create a better future for all of mutantkind. It's not just her powers that can't be unmatched. It's also her beliefs.
