Lennie James gave fans an update on Fear the Walking Dead and when AMC's hit zombie series could resume work on Season 6.

While The Walking Dead has been a staple of the network since 2010, Fear the Walking Dead joined the family in 2015. Filming on the next run of episodes was originally halted for three weeks in March, but with the coronavirus pandemic ongoing, James admitted he's not sure when he'll be back as Morgan Jones.

Speaking to Digital Spy, James explained, "We have no official restart time. But everything is still moving as if we will be back." Discussing how things will be different when filming resumes, James added, "AMC, who is the network in charge of the show, are in consultation with experts to find the safest and best way, and the most functional way, of not just restarting, but restarting safely, and finding a way to remain safe."

He continued, "The specifics of our show mean that we have a slightly different dynamic about how we could possibly incorporate, you know, social distancing. It's really not possible, certainly as far as in front of camera is concerned."

James gave a pretty grim prognosis for the future of Fear the Walking Dead and said he doesn't think the cast can go back to work until there's a "reliable, quick test that gives a result as quickly as possible." He also said that the test would need to be cheap enough for it to be repeated every couple of days. Given Fear the Walking Dead's many zombie extras spend much of their time getting up close and personal with the series regulars, James' latest comments make a lot of sense.

Similar to Fear the Walking Dead, AMC's zombie universe has slowly ground to a halt. Although The Walking Dead: World Beyond is still on track for its premiere, The Walking Dead had its tenth season cut short by one episode — while promising to air the season finale at some point in the future. Jeffrey Dean Morgan said it's a f-----g mystery when work will start on The Walking Dead Season 11. For now, Fear the Walking Dead is in the same boat as its sibling and fans will have to wait a little longer to see what's next for Morgan after his Season 5 cliffhanger.
