When AMC's Fear the Walking Dead returns for its fourth season, Garret Dillahunt will turn up in a season regular role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dillahunt will join the zombie drama as a currently unspecified character.

Dillahunt is a noted superfan of The Walking Dead, who lobbied to play the role of Negan before the position eventually landed in the hands of Jeffrey Dean Morgan. His past credits include The Mindy ProjectHand of God and -- most recently -- Fox's X-Men spin-off The Gifted.

Dillahunt's addition comes at a potential make-or-break moment for Fear the Walking Dead as the series attempts to remold itself under the eye of new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg. It's not just crew behind-the-scenes that has bolstered a major shake-up, either, since the show's deadly Season 3 finale saw two of its major characters meet their end, with the status of several other players up in the air.

Fear the Walking Dead is projected to debut its fourth season in 2018. Created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, the series stars Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Lorenzo James Henrie, Rubén Blades, Colman Domingo, Michelle Ang, Danay Garcia, Daniel Sharman, Sam Underwood, Dayton Callie and Lisandra Tena.
