With the Season 5 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead less than two months away, the upcoming season of AMC's spinoff series may have more connections to the main survival horror series than originally expected.

At WonderCon 2019 in Anaheim last weekend, The Walking Dead Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple hinted that the fifth season of Fear the Walking Dead would have more links to the main Image Comics adaptation than the arrival of Austin Amelio's Dwight.

"This season, I wouldn’t classify it as an enemy, but there will be this, beyond Austin [Amelio], this very interesting commonality, this story strand that’s gonna be furthered on this show that started on The Walking Dead," teased Gimple. "And who knows where it will go? But that’s the thing on tap right now.”

With the Whisperers threatening Alexandria, a mysterious faction of survivors kidnapping Rick Grimes and an unidentified voice trying to contact Alexandria by radio, there are plenty of loose plot threads from The Walking Dead for the spinoff series to pick up on. Until then, it remains to be seen how much the two series will eventually overlap beyond the appearances of Morgan and Dwight.
