The terror-fueled villain Scarecrow has a deadly new fear toxin that he plans to use to transform Gotham City into a Fear State in the upcoming event from DC Comics. Fear State is a Batman-centric event that will bridge ongoing storylines with previous events like Future State and Infinite Frontier.

Fear State is a huge five-month event that will crossover into ongoing series along with a number of one-shots and specials. With so many characters getting a Fear State tie-in, it can be easy to miss out on everything the event has to offer so we're taking a closer look at what to expect over the next few months.

10 Batman And His Allies Are The Main Stars Of DC's Fear State Event

It goes without saying that Batman and his allies will be appearing in a Gotham City event, but his extended family has grown and changed a lot over the last few storylines. While he used to have Damian Wayne/Robin at his side, he is now accompanied by characters like Ghost-Maker who will also feature heavily in Fear State.

Batman and his new crew will appear in James Tynion IV and Jorge Jiménez's Batman #112-117 and Mariko Tamaki and Dan Mora's Detective Comics #1043-1045.  Tynion IV and Ricardo Federici's Batman: Fear State: Alpha #1 and Omega #1 will also open and close the Fear State event.

9 Nightwing Will Also Be Involved In Fear State's Monthly Tie-Ins

While Dick Grayson/Nightwing has moved on to protect his own city, he still relies on Barbara Gordon/Oracle's network to help with his crime-fighting and keep him connected to the Batman Family in Gotham. Nightwing #84-86 by Tom Taylor and Robbi Rodriguez will all tie into the Fear State event.

A hacker known as the Anti-Oracle takes advantage of the chaos and infiltrates Oracle's network. This sends Nightwing back to Gotham City to work with Barbara Gordon and her Batgirls as well as Tim Drake/Robin to take on the Magistrate.

8 Batman: Urban Legends Will Follow Batman's Other Allies During The Fear State Event

Some of Batman's allies like Batwoman and the Outsiders will also be participating in the Fear State event in the anthology series Batman: Urban Legends #8-9 featuring a few different stories from a team of superstar comic creators.

Batwoman will be investigating the hacker who infiltrated Oracle's network alongside the newly appointed Commissioner Renne Montoya and her sister Red Alice. Signal and the Outsiders are forced to deal with Scarecrow's dark experiments in a story that also connects with Future State that begins in October.

7 Gotham City Sirens Will Reunite For Fear State In Harley Quinn And Catwoman

While Harley Quinn will feature heavily in the main storyline, her ongoing series from Stephanie Phillips, Laura Braga, and Riley Rossmo will also tie into the event and crossover with Catwoman by Ram V and Fernando Blanco.

Harley Quinn #6-9 and Catwoman #34-37 will feature the return of the Gotham City Sirens as the return of Poison Ivy stokes the growing threat of Queen Ivy. The Sirens then have to deal with Scarecrow and the Magistrate's combined attack in Fear State to make  Ivys, the Magistrate's invasion of Gotham City, and of course, Scarecrow.

6 Batman Secret Files: Peacekeeper-01 Builds Up Future State's Big Bad

DC's Future State event introduced a new threat known as Peacekeeper-01 who worked with the Magistrate to take over Gotham City. The current storylines have only begun to explore the former Arkham Asylum guard named Sean Mahoney as he transforms into the anti-vigilante known as Peacekeeper-01.

The Fear State event will explore a few new characters with one-shots like Batman Secret Files: Peacekeeper-01 #1 that will reveal his past after he is dosed with Scarecrow's potent new fear toxin along with the rest of Gotham City in October.

5 Poison Ivy's Former Partner The Gardener Gets A Secret Files Tie-In

James Tynion IV and Jorge Jiménez introduced a new villain to Gotham City who revealed a past relationship with fellow eco-terrorist Poison Ivy. Belle Garten/The Gardener is still a mysterious addition to Gotham City's rogues.

Her genetically modified plant creatures are primed to make her a suitable villainous replacement for the newly heroic Ivy. James Tynion IV and Christian Ward will reveal her origins during Fear State in Batman Secret Files: The Gardener #1 which will release in November.

4 The History Of Miracle Molly Will Be Explored During Fear State' Secret Files

One of the more exciting new character debuts in Tynion and Jiménez's run on Batman has been Miracle Molly, the leader of a high-tech group known as the Unsanity Collective. Molly uses her mechanical engineering skills to outfit the Unsanity Collective with tech.

They use it to carry out their goals of helping the citizens of Gotham City deal with a failed system that they feel includes Batman. Not much is known about Miracle Molly yet, but Fear State promises to reveal her history in James Tynion IV and Dani's Batman Secret Files: Miracle Molly #1 when it releases in September.

3 Azrael Will Hunt Escaped Arkham Asylum Inmates In Fear State's Arkham City

Fear State will also debut a few new mini-series to further explore other Batman Family characters which include the six-part Arkham City: The Order of the World by Dan Watters and Dani that releases in October.

The last surviving Arkham psychiatrist takes it upon herself to track down a group of escaped inmates in the mini-series. However, following his reappearance in Batman: Urban Legends, Azreal the Avenging Angel is also on the hunt for the villains and his new mission.

2 Jace Fox Makes His Modern Debut During Fear State With I Am Batman

While Timothy "Jace" Fox debuted as The Next Batman during the Future State event and his path to his role was documented in The Next Batman: Second Son, he won't debut as the new Dark Knight until the Fear State event.

I Am Batman #0 from John Ridley and Olivier Coipel will release in August and showcase Jace Fox's new costume and role as Gotham City's protector. He arrives just in time to deal with the mayhem caused by Scarecrow's fear toxin and the Magistrate's connection to an old villain of the new Batman.

1 Red Hood Debuts A New Team Of Undead Villains In Task Force Z

Another series launching out of Fear State is Matthew Rosenberg, Eddy Barrows, and Eber Ferreira's Task Force Z, which will explore a few of the deceased villains from the A-Day decimation of Arkham Asylum when the series drops in October. The villains have been brought back to life and assembled together by an unknown party under the command of Jason Todd/Red Hood.

Red Hood has returned from the dead himself, so he was selected to lead a team that includes zombified versions of villains like Bane, Man-Bat, Arkham Knight, Mr. Bloom, and Sundowner as they form together during Fear State.
