While any number of abilities and sheer resourcefulness can win the day, pure and raw power have a significant role to play in the battle's outcome. Considering that the cast of Fate/Stay Night is filled with famous characters from myth and legend, they have an impressive amount of might at their fingertips.

Throughout Fate/Stay Night, the Servants wield a variety of powers, proving themselves formidable opponents and valuable allies. While each boasts a solid amount of strength, the most powerful among them quickly stand out when comparing the Servants' raw power.

10 Avenger

Angra Mainyu, aka Avenger, in ethereal form in Fate anime

Avenger never actually appears in Fate/Stay Night, but his influence sets in motion the entire plot of the Fourth and Fifth Grail War. Avenger is the source of all evil and the manifestation of the taint in the Holy Grail. Unfortunately, that seems to give him no power whatsoever.

Avenger is a terrible Servant. Just barely above a normal human in comparison, his power doesn't stack up to the other heroes and legends. Worst yet, Avenger's abilities have huge drawbacks that make him ineffectual even outside a battle of raw power.

9 Caster

Caster yelling out in Fate/Stay Night the anime

Caster has a barrel of tricks that make her hard to deal with. She has several strong magical powers that can amplify herself and those around her, and she can summon her own Servant. If she wants to, Caster can even cheat with a blade called the Rule Breaker, which does exactly what its name implies.

When it comes to raw power, Caster's might wasn't enough to take down Rin. During Caster's one-on-one battle with the modern magus, Rin completely outmatched her and beat her to within an inch of her life. Caster's Master stepped in and saved her, but the defeat surely wounded Caster's pride.

8 True Assassin

True Assassin from Fate/stay Night grinning

True Assassin can be a great Servant if someone uses him wisely. If they keep him to the shadows and try and strike the Servant's Master, they have a decent chance at winning the war without any major conflict. Unfortunately, not everyone can use True Assassin to his full ability.

Despite having an impressive stat sheet, True Assassin is more likely to lose in a one-on-one battle. Due to his focus on stealth and assassination, True Assassin doesn't stack up against the heroes who've mastered combat during the Fifth Holy Grail War.

7 Assassin

The Assassin holding their sword in Fate/Stay Night anime

Assassin isn't like a regular Servant. Summoned by Caster, Assassin is more akin to a wraith that haunts Ryuudou Temple than a proper Servant. Unfortunately for him, Assassin is stuck at Ryuudou since he's linked to the land.

Assassin makes up for some of his disadvantages with his swordsmanship. Between his skills, defensive tactics, and Caster's magic, Assassin has proven capable of keeping up with Saber. If left on his own, however, Assassin wouldn't be able to overpower most battle oriented Servants.

6 Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh in Fate/Stay Night surrounded by fire

When taking all of Gilgamesh's advantages into consideration, the Servant could possibly win a Holy Grail War. Gilgamesh has won battles no one expected him to, but when his abilities and overpowered Noble Phantasm get factored out, he's no longer as formidable.

Rather than devote himself to one skill, Gilgamesh acquired a series of skills and abilities that help him overwhelm his opponents. As a result, Gilgamesh is a jack of all trades and a master of none. This weakness quickly becomes apparent during close range combat where he is out skilled and out powered by most other Servants.

5 Archer

Archer from Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks

Just like Gilgamesh, Archer has a lot of things going for him. He has access to hundreds of weapons and the skills of their users. This allows Archer to mix up his fighting style for every type of opponent he faces. Willing to take a life when necessary, if Archer has enough prep time, he can craft a solution to any problem.

However, Archer falls prey to the same weakness as Gilgamesh. His depth of skill gets stretched between the various fighting styles he's learned. As a result, he's familiar with many approaches, but hasn't taken any of them to their ultimate level. Archer may have an advantage over the King of Heroes, but he falls short when compared to other stronger Servants.

4 Rider

Rider from fate/stay night sitting in bed with a sword

Rider is none other than the great gorgon of Greek Myth, Medusa. Armed with all the abilities from her legend, including petrifying eyes and her mount, Rider also has monstrous strength to back her up.

In a brutal demonstration of her might, Rider once shot a chained spike right through Shirou's arm, then proceeded to drag him around with little to no effort. Because Rider tends to rely on her agility during combat, opponents are always caught off guard whenever she decides to tap into her strength.

3 Lancer

Lancer in Fate/Stay Night looking nonchalant

Lancer is the Child of Light, Cú Chulainn. A hero from the Ulster Cycle, Lancer is the greatest figure in Irish mythology and shouldn't be taken lightly. Possessing excellent speed, strength, and agility, Lancer is a close combat god in the literal and figurative sense.

Each of Lancer's strike's could become a fatal blow is his opponent isn't prepared for it. Anyone who thinks they can get around Lancer's spear and take him on in close-quarters combat quickly discovers the grave error they've made. Thanks to his speed and strength, Lancer can handle it all.

2 Saber

Saber from Fate/Stay Night looking serious

Saber may be small, but her opponents would be foolish to underestimate her power. A master sword-wielder, Saber is a powerhouse worthy of the title of King of Knights and the name of Arthur Pendragon. She's so strong that average magi like Kiritsugu and Shirou can't even bring her to her full power. In fact, it takes someone like Rin to unleash Saber's true potential.

Saber is so strong that she defies physics, proven when she ran up a building by digging her feet into it and continually kicking off of it to gain momentum. Furthermore, Saber can go blow to blow with any Servant in the Grail War. Her Mana Burst ability lets her use her magical power to further boost her strength. When powered up, Saber can go blow for blow with Servants with Mad Enhancement like Berserker from Fate/Zero.

1 Berserker

Herculese from Fate/Stay Night looming at the camera

A Servant with Mad Enhancement, Berserker remains the most powerful Servant in the 5th Holy Grail War. Not only does he boast great power as the Greek legend Hercules, but Berserker receives additional might from his Mad Enhancement.

Berserker can rend buildings and upheave the earth around him with ease. Perhaps the greatest testament to Berserker's strength, most magi wouldn't be able to sustain him with their magic power and would be turned into dry magic husks instead, as Berserker runs through their mana like an open faucet.
