Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi revealed one aspect of Chris Hemsworth's character from Avengers: Endgame won't be back for the upcoming sequel.

During a recent Instagram Live watch of Thor: Ragnarok, Waititi said the Marvel Cinematic Universe is done with "Fat Thor" and Hemsworth probably won't put on a padded suit for Love and Thunder. "We haven’t figured that out, but I feel like that’s done," Waititi said. The character was officially dubbed "Bro Thor," but some fans refer to him "Fat Thor."

Following the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, Thor spiraled into depression in New Asgard and physically let himself go during Avengers: Endgame's five-year time jump. Although Fat Thor became a major part of the Russo Brothers' movie, Waititi just suggested Thor will go back to working out.

While some loved Fat Thor and praised Hemsworth's comedy turn, others called out the characterization for fat-shaming. Fandom was divided on whether references to Thor being "Big Lebowski" were a harmless joke or made in bad taste. Now, it looks like Waititi will put an end to the Bro Thor controversy once and for all.

This revelation joins Waititi's confirmation that Silver Surfer won't be in Love and Thunder. However, the director was a little more coy about whether Tom Hiddleston's Loki will be back. Even if space sharks are in for Thor: Love and Thunder, though, it definitely sounds like Fat Thor is out.

Written and directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. The film arrives in theaters Feb. 18, 2022.
