Vin Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto in The Fast Saga, hinted that Eva Mendes could make her long-awaited return to the franchise in either Fast & Furious 10 or 11.

"We'll just wait for [Fast] 10," Diesel told Entertainment Weekly, when asked about Mendes appearing in one of the final two core Fast & Furious films. "Let's just say, the fact that you guys know that the studio is saying, 'We can't cover all this ground that needs to be covered in just one movie.' You can only imagine what is to come."

Mendes joined The Fast Saga in 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious. There, she played Monica Fuentes, a U.S. Customs federal agent who worked undercover alongside Brian O'Connor and Roman Pearce to take down the vicious drug lord Carter Verone. Her only other appearance in the franchise to date came in the post-credits scene for 2011's Fast Five, where she handed a file to fellow federal agent Luke Hobbs, revealing the presumed-dead Letty Ortiz was still alive and, at the time, working for the mercenary Owen Shaw.

Part of the reason Mendes hasn't appeared in The Fast Saga since then is because she semi-retired from acting in 2014, in order to focus on raising her children with her husband Ryan Gosling. All the same, F9 director Justin Lin previously refused to rule out the idea of bringing back any actor from earlier Fast & Furious movies for the final two installments -- both of which he will also helm.

"Whatever we do, whenever we’re talking about the next chapter, I never feel like I have any restrictions," Lin teased, "so I’m excited for what we build, and as we’re coming to this kind of final chapter of this saga, I think I’m excited to revisit... Any character, in any situation, is up for discussion."
