Since its introduction in 2001, Fast and Furious has become one of the most successful film franchises in the world. Its last installment, The Fate of the Furious, grossed $1.2 billion worldwide, so audiences are clearly still interested in the film series almost two decades later. It makes sense, then, that the franchise has plans to branch off in a couple different directions.

This year, the big screen gets Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw in August, while television and streaming will see the arrival of a new animated series: Fast & Furious: Spy Racers. The series was announced with a short teaser trailer that featured two heavily modified cars hurtling through an empty canal. The teaser has no audio, aside from the sound of the engines and the rhythm of a heartbeat.

According to the series description, "Teenager Tony Toretto follows in the footsteps of his cousin Dom when he and his friends are recruited by a government agency to infiltrate an elite racing league serving as a front for a nefarious crime organization bent on world domination."

Tim Hedrick (Voltron Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien) are attached as executive producers alongside Vin Diesel and Chris Morgan. Hedrick and Haaland will also serve as showrunners on the series, which is slated for release later this year.
