As principal photography continues on the first Fast & Furious spinoff film, director David Leitch has revealed the film's official title and shared additional hints about the movie's plot.

Officially titled Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, the film will see the two former enemies team up when a new threat arises in the United Kingdom.

"We’re going to go on an exciting ride with these two beloved characters of the franchise who were always at odds," Leitch told Total Film. "We’re going to learn about Hobbs’ past and his connections and his family, and we’re going to learn more about Shaw and his world.”

Comparing the upcoming spinoff to classic buddy-cop films like Lethal Weapon and 48 Hrs, the film will draw from Leitch's own extensive background as an action filmmaker. After all, he previously helmed Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde.

"We wanted to make sure that we can make a movie that sat comfortably in the Fast world, but was distinctly its own," he continued. "Our guys aren’t street racers. They’re from the agency world, and we’re building up their world so we can diversify the action and have fun in all different ways.”

Directed by David Leitch from a script by Chris Morgan, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby and Eiza Gonzalez. It is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2019.
