According to The Fast Saga star/producer Vin Diesel, a Fast & Furious spinoff movie featuring Cipher (Charlize Theron) is currently being developed.

Diesel informed Variety he has writers working on the script for a film featuring Theron's character, who was introduced in 2017's The Fate of the Furious. However, it's unclear if this is a new project or the all-female Fast & Furious spinoff movie Diesel confirmed was being written in Feb. 2020.

The Fate of the Furious sees Cipher, a notorious cyberterrorist, blackmail Diesel's Dominic Toretto into doing her evil bidding by kidnapping his ex-lover, Elena Neves, and their infant son, who Dom didn't know about before then. She later executes Elena to punish Dom for disobeying one of her orders. While Dom is eventually able to foil her plans and rescue his son, Cipher escapes, only to return to wreak further havoc in the film's sequel, F9.

Currently, the plan is to conclude the main Fast & Furious movies with two more films after F9. Following that, Universal aspires to continue the franchise with multiple character-based spinoffs, similar to 2019's Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. A sequel to Hobbs & Shaw is also being scripted, with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham lined up to reprise their roles as the eponymous duo.

F9 stars Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges recently endorsed the idea of an all-female Fast & Furious spinoff movie. "The girls need a spinoff. That's who needs a spinoff. All of the badass, kickass women that are in this film. That's who deserves it," said Ludacris. "I agree," concurred Gibson.

"Think about all the people we could bring back, right?" added Brewster, listing 2 Fast 2 Furious star Eva Mendes along with F9 costars Helen Mirren, Nathalie Emmanuel, Anna Sawai and Michelle Rodriguez, in addition to herself and Theron. "It would be really, really cool," she noted, before going on to clarify she "can't speak" to whether such a project is being formally developed or even discussed right now.

Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The film is in theaters now.
