F9's plot has teased Dominic Toretto's past returning with a vengeance and its latest casting reveal suggests that audiences will see a glimpse of Dom's past in flashbacks.

Vin Diesel's son Vincent Sinclair will play a younger Dominic in the latest film in the Fast & Furious franchise, as reported by EW. Sinclair filmed his F9 scenes in 2019 before the movie was delayed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Sinclair will be the second actor to play young Dominic Toretto in the blockbuster franchise, following Alex McGee's Furious 7 role.

Although the context of Sinclair's F9 scenes is unknown, fans speculated that his role will explore Dom's relationship with secret brother Jakob (John Cena). An adult version of Jakob appeared in F9's first trailer as one of the film's major antagonists, teaming up with Charlize Theron's Cipher. Jakob is seen joining Cipher's revenge plan against Dom and his crew for the events of Fate of the Furious. The trailers described Jakob as a "master thief, assassin, high-performance driver," while keeping the reason for the brothers' estrangement secret.

Alongside Sinclair and Cena's franchise debuts, F9 will re-introduce multiple characters from previous movies in the franchise. The trailer and Super Bowl spot not only teased a returning Jordana Brewster as Dom's sister Mia and Helen Mirren as Magdalene Shaw but also Sung Kang as Han, whose supposed death in The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift was revealed to have been caused by Magdalene's son Deckard (Jason Statham).
