Fast & Furious 10 director Justin Lin confirmed that the final two installments in the Fast Saga will be one film split in half.

Lin, who returned to the franchise for F9, will be behind the camera for the tenth and eleventh movies, which will end the main franchise. The plan for now is to shoot Fast 10 and Fast 11 back to back, but Lin admits that it's all down to logistics.

"There’s an ambition of what we want to do and there’s also real-world issues that we’re encountering," Lin told Collider. "But I feel like, for me, I don’t want to be greedy. I want to do what’s best for the process."

While certain factors will affect the filming process, Lin sees the final films as two parts of the same story.

"The idea of the last chapter being two films is correct," Lin said. "I have to say, I’m so glad — because I think when I first entered this franchise, a sequel was not a given. You had to earn it, you know? And so to be sitting here talking to you and go, 'Oh yeah, there’s gonna be two more movies!' I’m like, 'Wow.' It means a lot. So, every day when I wake up, I’m trying to reconfigure and make sure hopefully whatever we’re talking about process-wise is gonna yield the best result. But I think having one chapter in two movies is correct. That’s where I sit today."

Star and producer Vin Diesel teased as much back in 2020 when he discussed how the final two films, or rather the two parts of the final film, were already in the works.

"I started planning for Fast 10 before we started filming Fast 9. Very much so," Diesel explained. "The universe is so robust and so rich with talent and rich with story that, on one level, it’s totally feasible to have spinoffs, and I think that’s something that is inevitable. Universal deserves it because of how much they’ve invested in this little saga, and it’d be good to give back to Universal. And for the fans, should Fast 10 parts one and two be the conclusion, it would be nice for this world to continue for generations to come."

Directed by Justin Lin, F9 will be available to purchase on Digital, 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on Sept. 21. Fast & Furious 10 arrives April 7, 2023, in theaters.
