Following quotes made last year stating he was unsure about his future with the X-Men franchise, a new report indicates that Michael Fassbender may end up contributing his magnetic manipulation abilities once again, after all.
If a tweet sent out by MTV News correspondent Joshua Horowitz proves accurate, the actor will be reprising his role in next year's X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but not in Josh Boone's New Mutants.
Want to know Fassbender's X-MEN future? Bet big on him appearing in DARK PHOENIX but not NEW MUTANTS. Oh, I just saw Michael Fassbender BTW— Josh Horowitz (@joshuahorowitz) May 15, 2017
It would make sense for Fox to want to have as much talent on board with Dark Phoenix as possible, given the studio’s open remarks about how they want to rectify how poorly the story was handled in X-Men: The Last Stand. Fassbender's absence in the New Mutants film would also coincide with reports recently made confirming that James McAvoy wouldn't be making an appearance within the film either. We do now know that actresses Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy will be playing the roles of Wolfsbane and Magik, respectively, following months of their rumored involvement.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is expected to begin filming this summer in Montreal for a targeted release of November 2, 2018.
In addition to Wolfsbane and Magik, New Mutants is expected to feature characters Moonstar, Cannonball, Sunspot and Warlock. The film is targeted to begin filming this summer in Montreal for a release on April 13, 2018.
