X-Men: Deadpool Alum Wants to Play Fantomex

Deadpool alum Ed Skrein, who played the Merc With a Mouth's nemesis Ajax, has his eye on another role in the X-Men cinematic universe: Fantomex.

When asked if there was any other superhero role he'd be interested in playing, Skrein said, "The other one actually is Fantomex. He always wears a mask, as well, so maybe that would be a way of me getting back. I think he's French, so I'd have to do a French accent and wear the mask and get away with it."

"He's super cool. He's one of my favorite characters, as well," he added. "There's just so many awesome characters, but I'm excited by the unknown, about the characters that I haven't read yet, the intellectual property that I haven't stumbled across, full of amazing narratives out there. It's just exciting. It is exciting."

Debuting in 2002's New X-Men #128 by Grant Morrison and Igor Kordey, Fantomex is a mutant who was created as a super soldier using Sentinel technology. He both fought with and against the X-Men, employing his skills as a marksman and spy. Additionally, Fantomex has the ability to misdirect minds and fool them with tactile illusions powerful enough to fool even powerful telepaths like Jean Grey and Professor X.

Skrein would also be willing to play Fantomex on the small screen instead. "It was the same with Deadpool. I would have been in the cinema as a fan and just wanting it to be done right, whether it's the villain or the lead role and whatnot," Skrein said. "So yeah, it's just got to be done right, man. I'm so emotionally invested in these characters. "

Now in theaters, director David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Julian Dennison as Russell and Josh Brolin as Cable.
