The Fantastic Four are a family, and families sometimes take a much-needed vacation. However, the First Family's vacation will take a turn for the worse this December, courtesy of writer Christopher Cantwell and artist Filipe Andrade. The Fantastic Four: Road Trip one-shot will feature the Four on a trip to the Grand Canyon following the events of Empyre. However, Reed Richards has taken one of his experiments with him, and it causes the Four's powers to malfunction in horrifying ways.  "I think we ended up with something quite disturbing in this tale,"  Cantwell told Monkeys Fighting Robots.RELATED: Marvel Just Handed the Thing His Biggest Challenge Ever

Cantwell also posted the one-shot's cover, by Valerio Giangiordano, to his Twitter. The image features the Four in various states of distress. The Thing's body is literally falling off in pieces, and Sue Storm's body shows random patches of invisibility. Her brother Johnny's skin is burning off, and Reed Richards looks like he's melting. "When I was a kid I was scared of the Thing because I imagined his skin doing this," Cantwell wrote. "So obviously I put it into a comic book. It actually scares me to look at this cover."

Cantwell has taken over writing duties for the new Iron Man series and previously wrote a Doctor Doom comic. He will also pen the Iron Man/Doctor Doom: King In Black one-shot coming this December.
