Earlier this week, Marvel Comics announced Tom Scioli's Fantastic Four: Grand Design, a two-issue limited series recounting the life and times of Marvel's First Family, in the same vein as Ed Piskor's X-Men: Grand Design.
Fittingly, Piskor has provided a variant cover for Fantastic Four: Grand Design, which prominently features Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. What's more, Piskor's variant is actually based on a classic image from Frank Miller's fan-favorite Batman series, The Dark Knight Returns.
Piskor's illustration of Ben Grimm sees the Fantastic Four's muscle mirroring the fighting stance taken by Bruce Wayne on the cover of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #2, titled, "Dark Knight Triumph." The original cover in question was crafted by Miller alongside Lynn Varley.
The Dark Knight Returns is considered to be one of the most pivotal Batman tales out there. The title won numerous awards following its release in 1986 and became one of the first graphic novels to appear on the New York Times Best Seller list, alongside Watchmen, The Sandman and Maus.
Written, pencilled, colored and lettered by Tom Scioli, Fantastic Four: Grand Design arrives in October from Marvel Comics.
