Ryan North and Iban Coello are taking on a new Fantastic Four series for Marvel.

Announced by Entertainment Weekly, North and Coello are teaming up for a Fantastic Four relaunch later this year. North has worked on a number of Marvel series in the past, including 2015's The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and 2020's Power Pack. Coello previously worked for Marvel's Dark Ages limited series, which launched in 2021 and concluded earlier this year, among other titles.

A New Take on the Fantastic Four

North teased the new relaunch would tell "smaller" stories featuring Marvel's First Family. "I had the advantage that Dan Slott's run went super huge," North said. "In the most recent arc, "The Reckoning War," they saved not just the universe, but the multiverse. That made the choice obvious: I'm never going to go as big as Dan did, so let's tell smaller stories about the Fantastic Four. That was my way in."

North explained the first three issues of the series will focus on individual members of the Fantastic Four -- the first following the aftermath of Ben Grimm/The Thing's recent marriage to Alicia Storm, the second featuring Reed Richards and Sue Storm and the third starring the Human Torch/Johnny Storm -- before the team then comes together again for their next mission. "I want to do these smaller, self-contained stories in the vein of '60s Star Trek where they go down to a planet, find a weird thing, fix the weird thing, and move on," he said. "Having these four weirdos roll into town where there's a mystery or a problem or some sci-fi thing, solve the problem, and then move on struck me as a very interesting way to position the Fantastic Four and tell stories that would feel fresh and not like a retread of what we've seen before."

Marvel initially teased a new creative team was coming onboard for a Fantastic Four relaunch at San Diego Comic-Con. The current Fantastic Four series will end with Fantastic Four #48 in October. Dan Slott, who boarded the series in 2018, is departing the series following Fantastic Four #46. The final two issues come from writer David Pepose and artist Juann Cabal. Releasing on Sept. 21, Fantastic Four #47 will also serve as a tie-in to Marvel's Judgment Day crossover event.

The new Fantastic Four relaunch features cover art by Alex Ross and will kick off in November from Marvel.
