Before we delve into the information below, it’s important to note that the following post contains serious spoilers for “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them”. Like, end of the movie/this will ruin it for you-levels of spoilers. So, read ahead at your own risk!

Towards the end of the first film in the new franchise, Newt (Eddie Redmayne) and Tina (Katherine Waterson) try to save the life of Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller), a young boy who had latent magical powers but eventually turned evil. He couldn’t be saved, however, and in the film he is killed by the Ministry of Magic. While that may have looked to be the end of his story, producer David Heyman revealed Barebone's story wasn’t originally supposed to end that way. While speaking to Cinema Blend, Heyman described what sounded like a scene that was cut from the final film -- one that showed Credence Barebone to be alive.

"We actually had a scene, which we cut, which was Credence going to a boat, to get on a boat somewhere else. But we cut that, because we didn't want to have it be such an, 'Ahhh, here we go,'" said Heyman. He then described the scene, saying it would include "him getting on a boat, maybe a boat with Newt, maybe not, and heading off out of New York."

While Credence was shown to be dead in the movie, David confirmed that we haven’t seen the last of him when it comes to the franchise's future. He did so while also hinting that Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander may not be the lead in them all.

"I don't think [Newt will be at] the heart of all of them," said Heyman. "I think he'll be part -- so will Tina, Queenie and Jacob -- will be part of the next one." When it was mentioned that Dumbledore will be in the sequel, Heyman chimed in with "and Credence and Grindelwald. I think they will be the main players."

This revelation is honestly fairly surprising considering the second twist that occurs later in the movie. In the films final act, it’s revealed that Colin Farrell’s character was actually Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), an infamous wizard that the ministry had been searching for since the beginning of the film.

Had the inclusion of Credence’s survival been a part of the film as well, it would have provided for some truly memorable twists. Instead, we’ll have to wait for some time before we get any sort of confirmation on who is alive, as “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2” isn’t scheduled for release until November 16, 2018.
