In the wake of the success of the fan-driven social media campaign to get Warner Bros. to release the Zack Snyder cut of 2017's Justice League, fans are now trying again to get the newly-formed Warner Bros. Discovery to bring back Ben Affleck in a new Batman film after the actor backed out of acting and directing a Batman film in January of 2019. An earlier fan campaign got the #MakeTheBatfleckMovie hashtag trending back in April, but that was before AT&T spun off WarnerMedia and merged it with Discovery, Inc. to form Warner Bros. Discovery, so fans decided to give the social media campaign a second try. Barbara Muschietti, producer of The Flash, noted, "There have been some all sorts of stories and things he said himself about having a very hard time playing Batman, and it had been difficult for him. I think it was more about a difficult time in his life. When we approached him, he's now in a very different time in his life. He was very open to it, which was a bit of a surprise to us. It was a question mark. Right now he’s in a place where he can actually enjoy being Batman. It's a pivotal role, but at the same time it's a fun part."Fan campaign hashtags have not had nearly as much success as the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut did recently, with Suicide Squad fans trying to get Warner Bros. to #ReleaseTheAyerCut of that film and Batman Forever fans trying to get the studio to #ReleaseTheSchumacherCut have both failed to achieve their goals. With the Matt Reeves' Batman film coming out next year starring Robert Pattinson, it is unlikely that Warner Bros. is interested in doing a competing Batman film, but it is certainly not impossible now that the new Flash movie appears to be establishing the concept of a Multiverse in the DCEU.
